Katy Perry InStyle inside story pictures and how to get the look.....

So here as promised are the inside story pics to go with the InStyle cover I shot with Katy Perry. And how to get this SUPER GLAM LOOK!!!!!!!

Pretty hot don't you think. And here is how to get the look!!!!!

We started with the cover look. I blow dried the hair with Oribe Maximista volumising spray to give it the root lift and texture I wanted. I then curled and pinned one inch square sections of hair. I curled ends to roots and before curling I sprayed a little hair sprayed on each section. I curled the hair ends to roots to give more of a true curl than a wave. Once I had curled the whole head I let it cool down. Then I gave the hair a good brush with a Mason and Pearson brush until it sat into the wave pattern I wanted. I then back combed the roots to give a little extra root lift. And some hair spray to finish the look.

For the inside look I did two variations on what they call Victory rolls. I parted the hair in the center and took two sections just behind the ear to the crown to the back of the parting. Then I lightly backcombed each side section to give a base for the roll. I brushed upwards from the ear and downwards from the center part and rolled the hair inwards to the parting to from a long sausage shape. But make sure its quite high up on head so from the front the shape looks nice and square. Using bobby pins and u shaped grips secure the roll in place. I used a little Orbie rock hard gel to smooth the sides and hold them in place. Repeat this on the other side. As for the back I just brushed this back into the wave we had before.

For the second look I used the base of the first victory rolls. I just brushed the front up into rolls joining the side rolls and creating a corner where the two rolls meet. Again make sure you have a nice tight square shape as this is more flattering to the face. To finish use a little hair spray to smooth away any fly aways.

I the fact that we took a time less classic look and made it our own modern version!!!!!!!!!

Cat Deeley at the 2011 Emmy Awards in LA

So my long time friend and Emmy nominee for her role as host of FOX tv's So You Think You Can Dance Cat Deeley hit the Emmy red carpet in style last night!!!!!! She was waring a stunning Monique Lhuillier dress and over 1.3 Million Dollars worth of Diamonds....
For her hair we just wanted to keep it fresh and simple not to done but still super sexy. I first finger dried Cats hair with Oribe Maximista volumising spray twisting each section to encourage her hairs natural wave. Once dry i then curled her hair with a medium size curling iron. I wrapped it around in a spiral down the iron and held it for at the most 8 seconds as I only wanted the feeling of movement and not a full on wave. I also pulled the section down to soften the wave as it cooled down. Once I had finished the whole head I shook the hair out using my fingers i never brushed it as I wanted to keep that peicey feeling. To finish the look I sprayed Oribe Dry Texturing Spray into the roots to give that sexy undone texture.

I think you would all agree she looks FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!

TIFF 2011!!!!!

Well its been a very busy few days in Toronto for the international Film Festival 2011. Not only did I have four AMAZINGLY talented and stunningly beautiful actresses to do. There was also fun to be had at the popup  Grey Goose SOHO HOUSE. For those of you that know me soho house and Grey Goose are two of my fav things!!!!!!

So here is a break down of my gals. I started with Marisa Tomei who has become a firm fav of mine. We were following on from Venice with the sexy relaxed bob this time I made it straighter with a kick on end to give it a sassy swing. I gave the hair a good round brush blow out using Oribe Royal Blow out making sure to turn the ends under really well. To finish I used a combo of Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and the new Apres Beach Spray (a new fav of mine its heaven).

My second lady was my long term friend and client Miss Kiera Knightley. The day look we did for press was pretty much the same as the premier look. It was a full sexy blow dry unlike Venice which was pin straight this look was much more full and had a soft texture to it. I blew the hair out using Oribe Maximista thickening spray to give the hair the fullness and guts I wanted. I used a round brush giving root lift and turning the ends under to give a wider feel through the edge of the bob. To finish the look I sprayed Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray in the roots and did a slight back comb at the roots for fullness.

My third lady was the stunning Rachel Weisz. I love working with Rachel cause not only is she one of the nicest people i know but she has the most amazing hair. And she is not afraid of a bit of good old Hollywood glam!!!!! So for the Prem of the wonderful film The Deep Blue Sea we did what I like to call a side sweep. I first blew her hair out with Oribe Royal Blowout. I then curled the hair with a mid size curling iron. I sprayed each section with a little hair spray before curling and curled the hair in a spiral down the barrel of the iron. Once all the hair was curled I let it cool down then gave it a really good brush out till it forms waves. I then back combed the roots from the middle back to the front of the left hand side. This is to give an anchor for the pins. I then pulled all the hair over to one side and pinned it into place. To finish YES YOU GUESSED IT I used Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to give some guts and hold to the wave.

And last but not lest I worked on the super cool Maggie Gyllenhaal. We did two looks one for the days press then an up do for the premier of her film Hysteria. The day look was a sexy wavy bob I used Oribe Maximista thickening spray blow out her hair. I then curled the hair with a 1inch curling iron and pined each section in place to cool down. This helps hold the curl better. Once cooled down I Gave the hair a really good brush with a mason and pearson. To give a sexy undone feel to the hair I once again used a combo of Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray and the new Apres Beach Spray I also did a little back comb at the roots I always feel this helps with the undoing of a do!!!!

Our second look was a simple but sexy up do. I used the same hair form the day. I just went through and back combed the whole head to give texture and an anchor for the pins. because of the shortness of Maggie's in the back I took a small section in the nape and twisted this into a small french pleat. I then pulled the rest of the hair back into a messy bun which I secured with bobby pins and grips. I tucked the french pleat into the bun so it all looks like one!!!! I left a little fuzz to the hair texture as I wanted it to have a modern feel and not look to done. I used a little hair spray to hold everything in place.

So there is the round up of the 2011 TIFF. I hope you like what i did as much as i enjoyed doing it. Oh yes forgot to say Thanks to Tom and all the crew at the Grey Goose Soho House you were all stars and worked so hard to make sure everyone had the best time ever. And trust me form my hangovers they did there job well............

Marisa Tomei for the Venice Film Festival.

Also while in Venice I had the pleasure working with the very talented Marisa Tomei. This was for the premier of her new film The Ides of March. Which was directed by George Clooney and has an amazing cast!!! Marisa wore a stunning Marios Schwab floor length gown. We decide to keep the hair down and simple with a soft wave. Think 60's sexy!!! I blow dried the hair with a round brush first to give volume and shine. After blow drying each section I pinned it into a loose pin curl to help set the hair a little more. Then at the end I took the pin curls out and used my fingers to brush the hair out. And at the very end I sprayed a little Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray in the roots to give that sexy 60's root lift......

I just love how simple but sexy this hair looks very just off the Yacht in the South Of France or Venice !!!!!

Keira Knightley At The Venice Film Festival 2011

So I have had a few busy days in Venice with the stunning Miss Keira Knightley. She was there to promote her new film A Dangerous Method also staring Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen. Who are both amazing in this wonderful film.
I did two looks on Miss Knightley the first was for the press call in the day. This look was super simple and sleek. I just wanted to show off the line of her bob and for it to be chic but graphic. I first blew her hair out with Orbie foundation mist then ran the irons over the hair to make is super straight and give it a nice shine. To finish i used a little hair spray to get rid of any fly aways. I felt this look was super chic and very classic!!!!!!

The second look i did was for the premier of the film that evening. Keira was waring a Valentino gown in gold lace so i wanted to do something up and evening but still keep it modern. So my inspiration was old paintings I did a center part and pulled the two sides back in too two low ponytails on the hair line at the nape of the neck. I then pinned the pony's together in the middle and used this as the base to then tuck the hair in the back underneath. I then went through and pulled some soft wisp's of hair out to frame the face and soften the edges. To finish off the look I used a pair of Chanel diamond earring's placed in the back on the right hand side. I love this look i think its old skool with a modern twist!!!!!
